A destination for Modern and cutting edge Contemporary art, Emami Art is a unique gallery space built in keeping with international standards. Positioned as a key destination for artists, visitors and art collectors, the gallery aligns with the Emami Group’s mission to support artists and artisans and contribute to society’s wellbeing. A regular programme of curated exhibitions, includes the work of new talent alongside that of renowned masters of regional, national and international stature. This aligns with the promoters’ ideology, that while the popular contributes to the academic, the academic uplifts the popular. Spearheaded by Richa Agarwal, this new 10,000 sq. ft. gallery is located in the Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC), a state-of-the-art, multi-disciplinary interactive art space, off Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, Kolkata, India.

Promoters

Totally attuned and complementing each other, R S Agarwal and R S Goenkal share the same thoughts in matters of innovation, ideation, activation, implementation which led them to create and build, brand Emami – a company built to last. Both Mr R S Agarwal & Mr R S Goenka were conferred with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards by The Economic Times Bengal Corporate Awards 2016 and ‘Ananya Samman’ Award by 24 Ghanta, a 24×7 Bengali News Channel (part of Zee Group). Both were also felicitated by Ernst Young with EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2015 as the category winner in the Retail & Consumer segment, recognizing their commendable contribution to the FMCG industry in India. Recently, they have also been conferred with Degree of D.Litt (Honoris Causa) by KIIT University of Bhubaneswar in 2017 and Super Icon Award 2017 for being a Business Visionary by Society magazine. Today, Emami Group, under the aegis of the founding fathers enjoys leadership presence in diverse sectors like FMCG, paper manufacturing, hospitals, edible oil, bio-diesel, realty, writing instrument, contemporary art, retail, power and cement, generating employment for more than 25,000 people.

Motivated by her prolific father-in-law R. S. Agarwal & his business partner, R S Goenka’s passion for art, Richa Agarwal is keen to preserve the artistic legacy and heritage of Bengal, whilst embracing its modern and contemporary avatar. A commerce graduate from Coimbatore, Richa’s innate sense of business and her experience with the family’s businesses made her initiation into the business of arts smoother. Richa’s vision for Emami Art and Kolkata Center for Creativity is dominated by a concern for young Indian artists. She is deeply engaged in the advancement of art appreciation. This commitment to the cause of visual art has made her embark on a project that is playfully blurring the line between art and commerce. Emami Art and Kolkata Centre for Creativity will, she aspires, propel Kolkata as a hub of contemporary art. Wife, mother, daughter-in-law, home-maker and business woman, Richa Agarwal juggles several roles with effortless panache.

Bikash Bhattacharjee

Born in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, in 1940.
Diploma in Fine Arts from Indian College of Art and Craftsmanship. Works available in national collections. Passed away in 2006.
